Choosing clothes for your Barcelona photoshoot

I often suggest bringing one light outfit and one dark outfit, especially for a longer session. Contrast matters: pale clothing can disappear against light stone, while darker clothing can help you stand out. Choose comfortable shoes for walking and clothes that feel like you.

The best photoshoot outfit is not necessarily the most fashionable one. It is the one you feel comfortable wearing, walking in and moving around in. If you keep adjusting your clothes, it is harder to relax in front of the camera.

Start with comfort

Barcelona sessions often involve walking on pavement, steps or uneven streets. Comfortable shoes make a difference. If you want dressier photographs, you can bring a second pair and change when we reach a suitable spot.

Think about the background

A pale outfit against pale stone can sometimes blend into the surroundings. Darker clothing may create more contrast. In other settings, light colors look wonderful. If you have room in your bag, bring one light and one dark option so we can choose what works with the location.

Keep patterns intentional

You do not have to avoid patterns completely. But large logos and very busy prints can draw attention away from faces. If you are unsure, simple textures and colors are usually easy to work with.

You do not need identical outfits. Choose colors that sit comfortably together and a similar level of formality. One person in evening wear and another in beachwear can look disconnected unless that contrast is intentional.

Children need clothes they can move in. Bring a spare layer and avoid anything that becomes uncomfortable after ten minutes. A calm, playful session usually creates better photographs than constant outfit adjustments.

One last check

Before leaving, sit down, walk and raise your arms in the outfit. If it feels good doing those things, you are probably ready. And if you are deciding between two options, send me a photo before the shoot.

HOW I WORK

I love showing people a side of themselves they didn't know was there. No complicated posing or pressure to perform. We walk, talk and explore the city, and I capture the little moments along the way.

Weekdays often make busy locations more comfortable. We discuss your desired mood, sun or shade, location and timing in advance. Essential: 1 hour, €150, 50+ photos. Experience: 2 hours, €300, 80+ photos. Half-Day: up to 4 hours, €500, 150+ photos. More than one location or outfit is possible when the route and session length allow.

I'm Alex, a Barcelona-based photographer. I help people feel comfortable in front of the camera, even if they've never had a professional photoshoot.

Build an outfit around the location

Historic streets and stone

Choose colors that separate you from pale walls rather than blending completely into the background. Black or darker tones can add contrast; white or light tones can look fresh when the exposure and setting support them.

Colorful architecture

Near bold mosaics or patterned backgrounds, simpler clothing often keeps attention on your face. Avoid combining several competing patterns unless that is deliberately your style.

Beach and garden sessions

Consider movement and comfort: wind, uneven ground and temperature changes matter. Bring shoes suitable for walking even if you plan a more formal look for some photographs.

Frequently asked questions

Should I wear black or white?

Either can work. Bring a light and a dark option if you want variety and can change comfortably.

Are patterns bad in photos?

No, but small high-contrast patterns can compete with busy backgrounds. Choose intentionally.

Can I change clothes during a one-hour session?

Only if there is a convenient place and enough time. Ask before planning multiple looks.

Choose clothes that work with the background

Barcelona offers everything from pale stone walls to colourful tiles and open blue sea. A little contrast helps you stand out: for example, a deeper colour can look lovely against light architecture, while white or a soft neutral can feel fresh at the beach. Beige is not automatically a bad choice; the right texture, layering and background make the difference.

If you are planning two looks, consider bringing one light and one dark outfit for variety. Wear comfortable shoes between locations and change into dressier footwear for selected photographs. On windy days, clothes that stay comfortably in place will make the session feel easier.
