How to Prepare for Your First Professional Photoshoot
09 — How to Prepare for Your First Professional Photoshoot
Preparing for your first photoshoot
You don't need to practice posing. Tell me what kind of photographs you like and what makes you uncomfortable. We walk, talk and I give small suggestions when needed. I like capturing moments that people did not even notice happening.
If you have never booked a professional photoshoot, it is normal to wonder what you are supposed to do. Do you need to practice poses? Bring several outfits? Know your best angle? No. That is part of my job.
Before the session
Think about what you want the photographs for. Are they a memory of your trip, portraits for yourself, an anniversary or a family keepsake? You do not need a mood board, but a few words about the feeling you want are helpful.
Choose clothes you feel comfortable in and check the meeting point in advance. Bring water if it is warm, and avoid carrying too many bags. The less you need to manage, the easier it is to enjoy the session.
At the beginning
We will start simply. I will explain what we are doing, help you find a comfortable position and suggest small movements. You do not have to look at the camera in every photograph. Some of the most natural images happen while you are walking or talking.
What if you feel awkward?
Tell me. You are not the first person to feel that way, and there is no reason to pretend otherwise. We can slow down, try something easier or change the background. A good session should not feel like a performance.
After the photoshoot
Your package includes edited digital photographs. My standard editing approach is color correction and cropping, rather than changing the way you look. Delivery is normally within five days according to the current package details.
The point is not to become good at posing in one hour. It is to have photographs you like while still feeling like yourself.
HOW I WORK
I love showing people a side of themselves they didn't know was there. No complicated posing or pressure to perform. We walk, talk and explore the city, and I capture the little moments along the way.
Weekdays often make busy locations more comfortable. We discuss your desired mood, sun or shade, location and timing in advance. Essential: 1 hour, €150, 50+ photos. Experience: 2 hours, €300, 80+ photos. Half-Day: up to 4 hours, €500, 150+ photos. More than one location or outfit is possible when the route and session length allow.
I'm Alex, a Barcelona-based photographer. I help people feel comfortable in front of the camera, even if they've never had a professional photoshoot.
What to expect from the first ten minutes
Arrive ready to walk, not to perform
You do not need to memorize poses. We can begin with easy movement, a conversation and a few test frames while you get used to the camera.
Share your preferences in advance
Tell the photographer whether you prefer candid or more directed portraits, close-ups or full-body images, and whether there are any angles or situations you want to avoid.
Review the practical details
Confirm the meeting point, weather plan, session duration, clothing, delivery time and editing approach. Simple preparation reduces stress on the day.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need professional makeup?
No. Choose a look that feels like you. If you enjoy professional styling, allow enough time before the session.
Can I see photos during the shoot?
Ask your photographer. A quick preview can help you understand the direction without interrupting the flow.
What if I feel awkward?
That is common. Movement and small prompts often feel easier than holding a fixed pose.
A few small things that make the day easier
Allow a little extra time to arrive, especially if you are coming from another part of the city. A small bottle of water, comfortable walking shoes and a compact bag are usually more useful than lots of accessories. We can pause for a quick hair or outfit adjustment along the way.
Barcelona is a busy city, so keep your phone and personal belongings secure rather than leaving them on a bench while posing. You do not need to know how to pose before we start: the first few minutes can simply be a relaxed walk and conversation.
Let's make photos that feel like you
Tell me what you have in mind. We can choose a route and a time that suit the light, the places you love and the way you want to feel in the pictures. Private photoshoots start at €150.
